We are a public gathering place
and as such, we at the Monk’s Kettle are hyper-aware of the responsibility we
bear to ensure the health & safety of our customers and the greater community.
We are following the news and the latest health/social guidelines to make sure
that we are doing our part.
We have always followed proper procedures for hand washing and other sanitary
protocols. But this is a time to return to first principles and enhance
all our procedures. Among them:
First and foremost, frequent (read: constant) hand washing using the WHO method. It (should) go without saying that this is our modus operandi all the time, but to be sure, we have reviewed the proper hand washing technique with all staff members. We also have alcohol-based sanitizer at all stations for even more frequent disinfection.
Using disinfectant wipes and a bleach spray solution, we are starting each day by disinfecting all surfaces in the kitchen, behind the bar, on the floor and in our office. Bleach products are used on all doorknobs, cooler handles, touchscreens, pens, tap handles, faucets, light switches, furniture, phones…(you get the idea)…
Single-use Menus are now part of our procedures. Each person that joins us will have a fresh, clean and safe menu in front of them.
We have instructed all staff members to stay away from work if they are exhibiting any cold-like symptoms (again, our M.O., but we are being vigilant about this). We participate in SF’s sick pay program, which encourages employees to stay home when ill by removing financial disincentives for not working.
Lastly, we have removed one of our tables and a portion of our bar stools to allow for a more comfortable, and social-distant environment, to help keep you all as safe as possible.
Businesses Still Need You
This is an incredibly difficult time for all. But we at
Monk’s Kettle, and all the other small businesses out there, still need
your support to survive. As noted above, we’re taking the health and
safety of you and all of our staff extremely seriously. Our aim is to
make our restaurant a clean and sanitary safe haven — you’re home away from
So please be smart and safe, and stay healthy. But also
please continue to support your local small business community. Without
you, that community cannot survive.
