Our Story
The Monk’s Kettle opened its doors in December 2007, thus birthing the gastropub trend that, like other cities around the country, is finally taking hold in the Bay Area. We are a neighborhood tavern specializing in craft beer, while offering upscale pub food and an excellent wine list.
For beer selection, we have 24 draughts and over 120 bottles. We seek a balance of styles and profiles on the draught list, and we do our best to represent most styles with the bottle offerings. About a third of the list is Belgian, and there is a concentration of Californian breweries on the draught list. As the seasons change, so does the list’s emphasis of styles.

Hours
We are open for lunch, dinner and late night dining every day.
Daily Hours: 12 noon to 2 AM.
Kitchen open until 1 AM.

Closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
We open New Year’s Day at 5:00 PM.

Lay of the Land
We’re a small place.  The bar itself seats under 20, and we have eight tables for dining (3 booths and 5 small tables).  Due to this limitation, we are unable to accept reservations.  We are on a first-come, first served basis, with a waitlist if we are full.  Waitlist requests will not be accepted over the phone (that is technically a reservation and a short-notice one at that).  Our small space also makes it very difficult to accommodate large parties, so please keep this in mind.  Accommodation of parties over seven are very difficult, if not sometimes impossible.

General Info
The Monk’s Kettle is located in the Mission, at 3141 16th Street, on the corner of Albion, between Valencia and Guerrero.

There is street parking available (both metered and 1-2 hr parking), with a public parking lot located nearby at 16th Street and Hoff.  There is plenty of public transportation available as well.  The 16th Street BART station is located two blocks east at Mission Street.  Two MUNI lines run right by the Tavern (the 22 and 26 lines), while several others are nearby (the 5, 14, 19 and J-Church lines).

Name Explanation
The Belgian Trappist monks were arguably the first craft brewers.  Though we are not a Belgian restaurant, our name pays homage to these artisans with a reference to their brewing vessel: the kettle.
