SF Beer Week 2012

SF Beer Week 2012 at the Monk’s Kettle….

“In de hemel is gee daarom drinken wij hee”

“In heaven there is no beer so we drink it here”

February 13 – Second Annual Dinner of the Trappists

A lavish 7 course meal featuring all 7 Trappist breweries, including the treasured and highly acclaimed Westvleteren 12.  Also featured were cellared versions of a handful of the beers.  A PDF of the full menu can be viewed HERE.

February 14 – “Sweet & Sour Valentine”

“Sweet and Sour Valentine” featured one of the best sour beers in the world: Cantillon’s Rose de Gambrinus (draft pours).  On the other end of the spectrum was Dieu de Ciel’s Aphrodite (bottle pours).  Both were paired with special desserts from Chef Adam.

February 16 – The Bruery Vertical

A pouring of the anniversary series from The Bruery in Placentia CA.  Named in French for the traditional anniversary gifts, Papier (bottle pours) and Coton and Cuir (draft pours) were available as a flight and individually.  Papier was first released in 2009, and the others in subsequent years, with all aging in our Cellar since.  Additionally, Papier just won gold in the Old Ale category at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival.  Head brewer Tyler King was also on hand to chat beer.

February 18 – Meet the Brewer & Bottle Signing with Todd Ashman of FiftyFifty

Brewer Todd Ashman has been receiving a huge amount of acclaim for his barrel-aged imperial stouts in the Eclipse series: highly sought after very cellarable beers.  These 9.5% ABV stouts are aged in various whiskey barrels, and each bottle is individually hand dipped in was and numbered.  Four versions of the Eclipse stout was available for sale to be signed by the brewer.
