Monks Kettle SF Beer Week 2014 Events
Saturday Feb 8th United Sours of America
All the taps at the Monk’s Kettle will be taken over by American sours. 24 sours made in the good ole U.S. of A. About 20 breweries will be represented, and several cellared items will be featured. We will also offer an extensive vintage list of sours in the bottle. For this event, we will be opening early (11AM), as well as offering patio seating along Albion St for the first time (exclusive to a few special events).
Drafts will include a few selections from the very limited Cascade Brewing, Prairie Artisan Ales, Russian River (Temptation Batch 6 2011, Sanctification Dec 2010, etc.), Crooked Stave, The Bruery, Allagash, Lost Abbey, Almanac, The Rare Barrel (a new all-sour brewery in Berkeley), Logsdon, Evil Twin, Moonlight, New Belgium Lips of Faith, Golden Road, Boulevard, Jolly Pumpkin, Craftsman, Avery, and more. Bottle selections will be available from those listed above as well as others. Vintage selections will date back to 2008, and glass pours will be offered from breweries whose kegs don’t make it to SF, but their bottles do.
Tuesday Feb 11th Beer Dinner with Societe Brewing
5 Course dinner with San Diego’s Societe Brewing. This will be the first beer and food event in Northern California for this brewery; they are very good, but not yet distributing in this area. Doors at 5:45pm, first course served at 6:30pm. $125 per person excluding tax and gratuity. Click HERE to see the menu. Wednesday Feb 12th Pliny the Younger Charity Event
One of the most sought-after beers made in this country. We get one keg of it, and it’s all going to charity. $10 for 10 oz. Cash only for the Younger—limit 2 pours/person. We will be opening our doors at 11am (one hour early) for this event, and will be opening our patio seating for the event.
Proceeds will go to a local charity called La Cocina, located in the Mission on Folsom Street: “The mission of La Cocina is to cultivate low-income food entrepreneurs as they formalize and grow their businesses by providing affordable commercial kitchen space, industry-specific technical assistance and access to market and capital opportunities. We focus primarily on women from communities of color and immigrant communities. Our vision is that entrepreneurs will become economically self-sufficient and contribute to a vibrant economy doing what they love to do.”
Thursday Feb 13th Beer Pairing Lunch with Prairie Artisan Ales
We are honored to host one of the hottest breweries in the country. Fairly new, they have been putting out some of the most sought after beers released in the past year (the first year they were available). The event includes a reception beer and three-course lunch with Chase Healey, head brewer/founder of Prairie Ales, with Birra, Prairie Ale and BOMB! (one of the most coveted beers of 2012). Doors open at 11:30am, Reception Beer on arrival, and First Course at Noon. $75 per person excluding tax and gratuity. Check out the Menu HERE. Friday Feb 14th Cellarmaker Hop Flight
Only one of 3 places with Cellarmaker’s four SF Beer Week hoppy beer releases, we’ll have the following on tap: Riwaka Single Hop Pale, Southern Passion Single Hop IPA, Hop Slangin’ IPA, and Original Dankster. Join us in hosting Tim and Connor of Cellarmaker from 2-4pm.
Abbots Cellar SF Beer Week 2014 Events
Friday Feb 7th – Sunday Feb 9th It’s a Sour World After All
At the Abbot’s Cellar, we will be celebrating the sours of the world outside our beautiful country. The first weekend of Beer Week (Friday Feb 7th-Sunday Feb 9th), our tasting menu will feature courses paired with imported sours, including Freigeist Rhubarb Gose, Vicaris Tripel-Gueuze and Cantillon Vigneronne. Bottle selections of various sours will be available, including cellared Cuvee de Ranke, Drie Fonteinen, and Fantome.
Monday Feb 10th Burger & IPA Bash
From 9- 11:30 p.m., Chef Adam Dulye and his guest chef pals will each offer their own signature burger for guests to taste for this one-night only event, with Cellar Master Christian Albertson curating a special list of killer IPAs to pair with them.
Guest Chefs include NOPA’s Laurence Jossel, Telmo Faria from Tacolicious, William Werner of Craftsman & Wolves, and Liza Shaw of Merigan Sub Shop.
This event will serve as the unveiling of a new Abbot’s Cellar burger, to be refined in the following weeks before finding a more permanent home on the menu.
Each chef will offer a limited number of burgers at $15 each, with all proceeds going to charity — The Cooking Project.
