Ten Days for a Decade — Monk’s Kettle Celebrates 10 Years
On 18 December 2017, the Monk’s Kettle will mark ten years as a neighborhood tavern on the corner of 16th and Albion, in the Mission District. To celebrate, like the 12 days of Christmas, we will have ten days of events leading to our anniversary date. Each event will honor the producers we work with and highlight the best aspects of what we do here.
In addition to the events, to show appreciation for our customers, we will be giving away a take-home beer glass to all patrons that week, until the multitudes we have stored in the cellar are gone.
There will be no cover charge or reservations needed, except for the beer dinner and after-party. There will be limits on to-go bottles for some of the events.
Sat Dec 9: Day of a Hundred ‘Loons
This event honors one of the very best breweries in the world, Belgium’s Cantillon. This brewery makes some of the most coveted and rare lambics in the world. While we do not get very much, we have been putting bottles aside for the last 10 years, and on this day we released 100 bottles (some by the glass, some as verticals, and some by the bottles).

Wed Dec 13: Brian Hunt, Brewer & Mad Scientist
We have been honored since we opened to have made a friend in Brian Hunt, the founder of Santa Rosa’s Moonlight Brewing. His Reality Czeck has been our house Pilsner since day one, while many of his other beers (like Death & Taxes) have been integral to our list. We will honor him, pour a few of his lesser-known specialties and host him for a Meet & Greet.

Bombay by Boat (IPA)
Twist of Fate (ESB)
Adult Supervision (Saison)
Mounting Evidence (Herbed Beer)
Thurs Dec 14: Vintage Strong Ales
For this night, we will be highlighting some of the strong ales we have been cellaring over the years. We will have several 2011 vintages on draft as well as others in the bottle going back to 2009.
Fri Dec 15: 3-Course Prix Fixe
From the outset, we have striven to elevate both craft beer and pub food, and their interaction as pairings. On this day, we will offer a 3-course prix fixe meal (in addition to our regular menu) with beer pairings from vintage large format bottles (Allagash Interlude, St. Bernardus ABT 12, Anchor Christmas).
Sat Dec 16: Russian River Vintage Sours
Russian River, pioneers in hoppy and sour beers, has been a vital part of our beer program from the very early days of the Monk’s Kettle. We have been putting aside vintages of all their sours since we started getting them in 2008 and have put together a ridiculous list for release. We will have on draft the most recent vintages of Temptation, Consecration and Sanctification alongside the 2011 versions of the same. We will also offer up about 70 bottles that date back to 2008.
Sun Dec 17: Monk’s Cellar Sale
For this event, again, we have gone digging into the cellar to find lots of goodies to release. We will open early that day (at 10am) to host a cellar sale of scores of rare vintage items.
Mon Dec 18 (5 – 8pm): Epic One-Hoppy-One-Sour Beer Dinner
On the date of our anniversary, we are hosting a 10-course beer dinner with five of our favorite breweries; breweries that we are grateful to be partners with in this endeavor. We are honored to host Russian River, Cellarmaker, Sante Adairius, Alvarado Street and The Rare Barrel. Each brewery will bring a hoppy beer and a sour beer for a ten-course dinner that celebrates how lucky we are to be in this business in this region with these brewing powerhouses.
The dinner is $195/person (excluding tax and gratuity). Reservations are required and we are currently accepting names for a Waist List as the dinner is sold out. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with the requested party size.
Mon Dec 18 (9pm – Midnight): “Kick the Kegs” After-Party
For those that can’t attend the dinner, we have another way to celebrate with us on our official birthday. After the beer dinner, we will be hosting a Kick the Kegs party, in which we will offer the beer dinner beers before the brewers head home. Tickets are $30 each and include admission, passed apps and 2 beers. Additional beer dinner beers can be bought on-site at $5/pour. Tickets are on sale now through Brown Paper Tickets.
